Reference & Instruction

Instructional Services

Library workshops have consistently been one of our most popular services. We can visit your class to teach research & information literacy skills. These workshops can be delivered either in-person or online, in a synchronous, asynchronous, or blended format. We can also work with you to develop activities, assignments, and projects that actively incorporate research skills or challenge students to engage meaningfully with specific library resources.

We can visit your class for 30, 45, or even a full 75 minutes to teach your students skills for discovering, locating, evaluating, storing, and citing sources from our collection. In the past, we have taught hundreds of in-class workshops covering research skills that range from foundational & essential to disciplinary & sophisticated. In addition to skills, our technologists and data services experts can also cover a range of tools, technologies, and useful hands-on skills.

Bring the Library into your Classroom

We are happy to meet with you to discuss your goals for the course, as well as determine what instruction methods will work best for your class. To allow enough time for lesson planning and logistics, please contact the library at least 7-10 days in advance by emailing shanghai.librarian@nyu.edu.

Citation Guides

Our library’s collections include up-to-date citation manuals for APA, MLA, Chicago, and Blue Book styles. We also have a research guide to help connect your students with books, manuals, and style guides for citations and academic integrity, writing manuals for general guidance and books for students writing major theses & capstones, and guides on stylistics and research in disciplines including the Humanities & Social Sciences, STEM, and Business.

Research & Reference Consultation

Librarians are available to provide 1-1, personalized research support wherever you need it. Our expertise is broad, and we can assist you with

  • developing & refining your research topic
  • choosing databases; identifying and using keywords
  • navigating resources; requesting materials, and more!

We invite you to contact us with any research questions you might have.
