The collection provides first-hand accounts from the participants of China's Down to the Countryside Movement, including their diaries, letters, photographs, and artifacts. The Dartmouth Library has been collecting these materials since 2016.

The Memory Project

The Memory Project collects oral histories from survivors of the Great Famine between 1958 and 1961. It contains 487 interviews. More recently the project has also covered the Great Leap Forward of 1958-1960, the Land Reform and the Collectivization of 1949-1953, the Four Cleanups Movement in 1964, and the Cultural Revolution of 1966-1976. Undertaken by Wu Wenguang's documentary film studio, Work Station, in 2009.
